The citizens' energy or energy democracy movement is inspired by the vision of a socially just energy transition and has been growing for years all over Europe. Pioneering energy coops and communities, citizens’ collectives and wider partnerships lead the movement while supportive institutions inspired by the same vision continue to play a catalytic role in its development. What is the role of the Heinrich Boell Foundation Offices as a support organisation within the movement?

Karel Schwarzenberg (1937-2023) died on 11 November 2023. We remember him as a passionate European with whom the Heinrich Böll Foundation has always been closely associated. We will miss his foresight, his judgment and his humor.

On 21 August 2020 the Prague office of Heinrich Böll Stiftung celebrates its 30th anniversary. As the first office of the foundation abroad, it both witnessed and provided support for the long transition of Czechoslovakia, and later the Czech Republic, from the Velvet Revolution through the economic transformation of the 1990’s to Czech membership in the EU and beyond. Also covering activities in Slovakia, Hungary and Croatia, the unique experience and institutional memory of the Prague Office of the Heinrich Böll Stiftung continues to provide valuable support for environmentalism, democracy, and human rights in Central Europe.
