The author András Deák is senior research fellow at the Institute for Strategic and Defense Studies, Eötvös József Research Center of the National University of Public Service. He also workes as head of research group at the Institute for World Economics, CERS, Hungarian Academy of Sciences, and was between 2011-2014 adjunct fellow at the Hungarian Institute of International Affairs.

His fields of research include economics in the post-soviet region and in Russia, and energy policies.
