Call for Papers
Radicalisation and the spread of populism represent one of the most acute challenges to European liberal democracies. To understand the dynamics of populist behaviour and strategies in European societies, it is important to analyse the (mis)use by populists of the so-called "refugee crisis", major geopolitical events, terrorism, economic and social grievances and the lack of solidarity among the EU member states. Another important aspect is the penetration of the mainstream political space by populist attitudes and the resulting shift in the entire political landscape within the EU. The conference is dedicated to a comparative analysis of individual EU member states where populism represents a significant trend in politics. Within this context, the conference encourages papers on the following topics:
- Conceptualisation and approaches towards European populism
- Populist attitudes towards refugees, asylum seekers and migrants
- Populism and new social movements in Europe
- Populist attitudes towards the EU
- Impact of populism on the political culture and political mainstream
- Welfare chauvinism and entrepreneurs in politics

Submit a conference abstract
Applicants are invited to submit abstracts of up to 300 words and short CVs to mejstrik.m@fsv.cuni.cz by 29 February 2016. Accepted papers will be announced by 15 March 2015. There is no conference fee for participants. More details will follow on the conference website, where you can find a summary of the event’s first year (http://populism.fsv.cuni.cz/).
